GULF BEACHES & BIKING II

Back by popular
demand from 2007, we will rally May 1-4, at the luxurious
Dunedin Carefree Resort located on Bay Shore Blvd. (US
19A) between Clearwater and Tarpon
Springs, FL. (see
www.dunedinrvpark.com) We will be next to the Pinellas
Trail. This paved trail is on the former railroad right-ofway
that linked the beach communities north of St. Petersburg.
It is perfect for biking or hiking to the beaches in Clearwater
and the sponge docks, shops, and great restaurants at our
country’s largest Greek community, Tarpon Springs. The Jolly
Trolley also makes the trip via road. You can get on and off all
day for $2.50.
Honeymoon Island is just three
miles away with its ferry to Caladesi Island. Both these State
Parks have award winning beaches. Trekkers from the earlier
rally reported seeing hatchlings on eagle and osprey nests and
finding good shelling on the north beach. Co-hosts Wally and Lee
will guide bird watching and photo hikes.
Check-in
will be on Tuesday, May 1 and departure on Friday morning, May
4. Tuesday evening we will get together for a potluck of heavy
hot hors d’oeuvres in the resort’s recreation hall. Three
continental breakfasts and one catered dinner are included and
one dinner will be “on your own.” You can make arrangements to
come a day or two early or stay late at our rally rate of $31.50
per night versus the regular rate $63.00.
